A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into the bone where a tooth is missing. A crown, bridge, or denture is then attached to it. It is the most modern and durable method for tooth restoration.
Components of an implant:- Implant (screw) — the “root” itself, made of titanium or zirconia, placed into the bone
- Abutment — the connector between the implant and the crown
- Crown — the visible part, resembling a natural tooth
Advantages of implants:- Do not affect adjacent teeth (unlike bridges)
- Long-lasting: 10–25 years or more
- Looks like a natural tooth
- Restores full chewing function
